Does anyone know if amano shrimp will eat green brush algae? The kind that looks like a little green affro? How about black beard algae? I have heard that they will eat almost any type of algae, but I am not sure about those two specifically.

I would not count on *any* shrimp actually getting rid of your algae problems (taking care of the source of the problems, i.e. water parameters, will be your best bet) but the types of algae you have described Palaemonid shrimp (i.e. Palaemonetes sp., Macrobrachium sp. etc.) have done a great job eating those in my tanks. They get rid of the stuff that is loose and just sitting on top of things and they keep the blackish algae, which is really hard to rip off of things, really short by grazing it. If they can't get the algae with their claws they go down with their to it and directly chump on it....kind of like cows.
With Amanos it's a crapshoot if they will eat those types of algae...some say they will, others say they don't. However, i have yet to see a Palaemonties sp. that won't chump on those algae. Of course, if you feed them flake food etc. they will prefer that over the algae.
