Hi, I'm new to amanos and when I got my first round I found some "escaping" so weeks later when I could only find two shrimp I thought the rest were gone and got some more. Wow they can hide really well---I just watched carefully and found there are at least 5 shrimp in this 10g planted with 3 fish and many MTS. Is this Too many amanos for this size tank? It has a good crop of algae. My only other tank has plastic plants so I didn't think that'd be a good home for them.
Hi Javalee, I'm far from being an expert but in my opinion, your Amanos should do fine. I'm not sure what your implication is concerning plastic plants, but if it has to do with food, they can be fed regular fish food if they don't have a source of algae.
Thanks for the reply. My concern was whether or not they are currently overstocked and if I need to relocate some to my other tank. I guess they seem so dependent on or so happy in planted tanks (eating the dying leaves, and plucking algae) that i didn't want to put them in my "sterile" plastic-decor tank unless I really had to. But if 5 in a 10g is ok, I won't move any.
There is one that has really surprised me with how fast it's growing and how big it is (1.5") and how active and restless it is, and I thought if they all get this big then the tank will be crawling with super shrimp!
Lol, you are growing super shrimp, hehe. This website states they get around 5 cm which translates to 1.968," so super-duper shrimp are on your horizon! I did find a past topic that dealt somewhat with your concerns and gives some insight: viewtopic.php?t=334&highlight=amanos+stocking+amount
Actually, your plants will help with the bioload; I merely commented on the plastic plants because I personally use them for growing algae in a tank whose inhabitants don't eat much of it. After it gets algae growth on it, I rotate it into the algae-eating shrimp tank.
