I think we need to start a new discussion just for these little guys! How many others out there are keeping the Mexican Dwarf?

Mine charge to the front of the tank, pinchers raised, threatening to do great bodily harm if anyone gets too close...it's too cute, being that none of them are over an inch!

I keep 4 of them, the female is carying eggs for the first time I had them before but everythime i bought fresh blood in a store, within afew days they died The ones i keep now are youngsters of the adult i had before




it's not easy when your smaller than your femalen

I'm in the process of setting up a tank for them and I've read that they need caves to hide in while they're moulting. What do you guys use for caves? Do you have any other suggestions regarding tank setup (as far as aquascaping is concerned)? I'd like to do it right the first time, rather than aquascaping with them in there.

Also, I've noticed that some of them have more of a striped pattern than others, is that just a variation within the species (ie the babies from one pair are both striped and solid orange)?

I'm not sure about the stripes. I never realy found anything about it but i was told only de ones with stripes are pure ones. But i have seen patzcuarensis solid, marbled and striped even orange to almost red.

I have natural driftwood in my tank. They like to hide in the holes or climb atop while/after moulting. Sometimes they just climb to the top of the plants & rest there.

What do you all feed your little crays? Mine love whole whiteworms, chopped earthworms, & fish.

I just wanted to say I'm glad to see there are others out there that enjoy these little guys as much as I do!

I feed mine all sort of things: spirulina tabs, peas (mushed) spinach, red musquitolarfs, artemia, krill, tubifex, flakes for fish, carrots. I would't feed them wurms because of the stuff inside them, you never know where they've been..

I only feed mine home grown worms so I know what's in them. I would never put my little guys life in danger! I've never tried peas, I'll have to give it a try. I've fed them boiled zucchinni and squash though.
