unknown shrimp...

Post by kevin69 »

Does anyone know what species they are? They are about the same size of bee shrimps, and some individuals show redish while others look more purple/blue.

Let me know if you have any information about these shrimps.

Thanks,

Hard to say. This shrimp looks like a very juvenile shrimp judging from its shape. I would let it grow to full size first before trying to identify it. Having said that, it looks almost like a juvenile of the Indian Zebra Shrimp, which is one of the many Caridina sp. (=unidentified or unnamed Caridina) from India.

I will post a few pics of that shrimp once I get some good shots.

juvenile?

Post by kevin69 »

Not sure if they are juvenile, because the ones I have are 1.5+cm in length, and I have seen some individuals with eggs, and they are about the same size.

I have more pictures if anyone wants to see.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

1.5 cm would still make it a juvenile assuming that this shrimp gets to be about 3-3.5cm like many other algae eating shrimp. In any case...let's see the other pictures. I would especially be interested in seeing some females with eggs. If you show me one I can tell you for sure if it's an Indian Zebra Shrimp or not. Do the females have a line down their backs?

I have no idea why forum rules are being ignored here *repeatedly.* :smt013

How hard is it to just follow them? I'll quote from the frontpage of this forum:

"Also, DO NOT INQUIRE ABOUT SHRIMP FOR SALE OR OFFER SHRIMP FOR SALE, since this forum is for the exchange of information only. Thank you for your understanding."

So, please...there is a PM function for such things so *USE* it.

Petstores are the last place to look for when searching for "unique" shrimp. In other words, no..I have not seen any.
