I have noticed for some time that some of my RCS pregnant females (the ones with yellow patches) have a thin crack near their head connecting to their bodies. I have seen one post earlier in this forum at viewtopic.phpt=93&highlight=feeding
and there was a picture posted by someone at the bottom of this message.
My shrimps do not have that wide of a crack but close to it.
I would like to ask if anyone knows why that happens? My RCS females all have very nice deep color yellow patches around their neck which I know are ovaries. However, I have kept the shrimps since April and I still haven't seen any eggs yet. I have only seen it once in one female RCS and it dropped her eggs around one day later. I have already removed all of my Amano shrimps, and one golden beard algae eating fish close to a month now. I change my water (20-30%) once every two weeks. My kH is around 5 now and my gH is around 8. pH is around 7.2 and temp. is around 77 F, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate is 0 in a 20G L planted tank with a CO2 injector. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.
That has happened to one of my best cherry female. I thought something attacked her from behind (a very horny male, who just didn't know where to stick it!!!). She stayed alive for 2-3 days and perished. When I removed her, her head plopped off her body. IMO, I think it was an internal parasite that got to her. Just a guess, not a definite answer. I pray to GOD, to keep my shrimpies happy and healthy. That reminds me, I gotta clean out the tank. Maybe some here has also had this problem too.
