More info on N. Palmata?

Post by Acsuth »

I've been trying to find out more information on this shrimp -- has anyone yet bred them? Do the young show any of the orange/red coloration...all the information I have found so far speculates that the color will not be passed on to the young however I haven't seen any proof of this...and then are all the ones being sold wild caught? I just don't want to spend all the money to purchase them if the young are just going to come out clear or brown.

It's not just speculation. It's a fact. The young do not have the orange coloration on their backs. Many people in Germany who bred them have confirmed this. Other than that they are easy to breed. All the shrimp with the orange are wild caught.

What are the theories on where the color comes from?

The orange is capsulated parasite in shrimp body. It's one of it's larval stages. Therefore young ones doesnt have it.
