Shrimp packing disaster!

Recently I received a package that I couldn't believe.
Shipper said 30 shrimp were sent. First alarm goes off when I see the small size of the box
Open the box to see virtually no padding one (1):!: bag; a small Ziploc with greenwater and no air space at all . I'll skip the description of the smell...

Needless to say, none alive. Total leakage aside, it couldn't be much worse, could it?
Obviously a beginner dealing in shrimp trade... not mad, although that's very sad for the (ghost) shrimp. I suggested all the things I would have done differently.

Oh my, we need those breather bags to not be discontinued.
Expecting full refund or maybe free reship..

This is, unfortunately, not an uncommon occurance, although I must admit that this description tops everything else I have heard (ziploc??). The person who shipped you these shrimp should be barred from ever handling any type of animal again!

You probably had your good reasons to have them shipped to you, but out of curiosity, are ghost shrimp not readily available at your LFS? It's one of the more frequently available shrimp here in So. CA.

Nope, not here, GB. Not in the LFS's I usually go to.

In fact the ONLY shrimp I've seen sold here are those red opae ula, and wild variety N.d. sinensis (and red swamp crayfish if that counts).

Instead of ghost shrimp as feeders here, it's the wild Neocaridinas because they breed (as we know cherries do) so prolifically and especially because who needs to breed them when they can be netted out of streams in vast numbers and sold in store? (so much so they can be sold at 20 for a buck ... though usually 10 for a buck)

At least I'm guessing that's the reason nobody carries ghost shrimp here.

When I read that they would eat hair algae, I decided they were worth a look. I wanted to see the larvae too. I earlier obtained less than 10 from another seller, but am unsure if they are the fresh or brackish variety and was looking for more.

I like them too... they'll readily swim right into your hand (because they think your hand is food?!)

About greenwater.... Would I be correct in saying that it would not only be useless in shipping shrimp, but harmful because in the dark it'll just help remove oxygen from the water and/or die and pollute the water?
Because that's what I told the seller.

Under the conditions I described, would shrimp even last a day?
