Amano's hooked me

Post by DatDamWuf »

Hello,

new to the site, an intro. I kept many tanks up to the mid nineties when I moved to my current home and gave up on conditioning my horrible well water. Thanks to RO/DI units cheap I am back in the hobby. Not sure I wanted to go back, I first set up a 5 gallon next to my monitor, I'm hopeless...over time I ended up with dwarf puffers, shrimps and kuhli loaches, way too big a bioload but I make sure their water parameters are right. a year later I set up a 46 gallon bow Seaclear II (I don't recommend this tank BTW). I've cycled it, planted it and now it has a few Otos and I'm eagerly waiting for shrimp and snails from Mustafa.

The five gallon hooked me on shrimp, an animal that could hardly be found or kept back in the 80s, it amazes me how much easier everything is now! I bought 2 juvie amano shrimp about 10 months ago and happened to get a male and female. She is constantly with eggs but I am afraid to even try to bring the larvae to adulthood. Kudoes to those of you that keep trying. I've read the accounts about how to do it but I'm afraid to loose my female shrimp by moving her to a jar or another small tank when her larvae are ready to be released. The shrimp have been so happy in the 5 gallon I am even afraid to move them to the new tank. Their current parameters are hard water due to the Dwarf Puffers and the new tank will one day have Discus so it is quite soft. Does anyone know of a reputable hobby group in the Virginia area that could help me find some amanos?

thanks,
~D
