They call all kinds of shrimp with a long rostrum "pinocchio" shrimp in some asian countries, but I have heard it most often used for Caridina gracilirostris, also called the Red Nose shrimp:

Most definitely not. :) I have X. elongata listed here also by the way:

X. elongata is not sold commercially anywhere. I caught the specimen on the picture myself.

I think it could be Xiphocaris elongata because I was offered "pinokio" shrimp from a wholesaler who also at the time was selling Gracilirostris "red nose" shrimp.

I will try to call them and get a scientific name of the mysterius Mr.Pinokio...

Trust me, it's not X. elongata. There are tons of shrimp species with long rostra from Asia that are not C. gracilirostris. Some of them even have yellow rostra. They are all Caridina. You are just speculating right now. There are just aren't any commercially available shrimp from the Caribbean. That's a fact.

Also, wholesalers don't have any idea about what they are really selling so it's not uncommon for them to give different names to the same shrimp just because they come from two different exporters in either the same country or two different countries. Some shrimp have a very wide natural distribution. Wholesalers and importers just use whatever name the exporter provides.

Bottom line...it just isn't Xiphocaris elongata.

OK... I`ll take your word for it ;-)

I think maybe I´ll buy some and post a picture and see if anyone recognises it?
