Hey there! New and not sure lol (ID help)

Hello everyone! My name is Jen and I'm an aspiring shrimp enthusiast.
I've followed this forum for quite a few months now anticipating my venture into dwarf shrimp and I've finally jumped in but a little too soon and still a bit unlearned.
I found some "algae eating shrimp" (dwarf shrimp, not ghost shrimp) at an lfs about 2 weeks ago. I purcased 10 for less than $7. They were mostly translucent with an amber tint and 1 or 2 large ones where reddish. I brought them home and while in QT they went a solid milky color on their body with black heads. After moving them into my planted 5.5gl they slowly went back to their normal amber color. They have a strip down their backs, the tiniest two have no color that I can make out.
Anyone know what they might be? Possibly Amanos?

Hi Jen.

It's really hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like they might be related to the Sri Lanka Dwarf shrimp that I have listed on my shrimp varieties page. It's always problematic to identify shrimp species that are not in wide circulation yet, because there are so many shrimp species in existence that are still unknown to the hobby and even unknown to science. So there will be a lot of unidentified shrimp among some imports that these fish stores are getting that will simply be sold as "algae shrimp." They are definitely not Amano shrimp.

I think my shrimp look most like the "Indian Dwarf Shrimp". I understand a number of species are being sold as "Rainbow Shrimp". Same thing apparently. I think after this I'll stay away from the vague species .

I'm expanding quickly and moving up to a larger tank. I'm supposed to pick up some Bumble-bee Shrimp on Sunday and I purchased 4 CRS a few days ago. Will these 3 hybridize if kept together?
