reconstitution of RO

Post by badflash »

I added R/O Right to my mix. I happen to want algae, so I'm glad it does that. That is why I have algae eating shimp, or visa versa. This combo is working fine with Riccia. I don't use CO2 injection, just an air bubbler. I try to support some monia and copepods in the tank.

Do you know what plants are effected by Proper pH?

Anyone know if shrimp are effected by phosphates? Is acid buffer/base buffer any better?

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "affected". Proper pH is a phosphate-based buffer. It is almost pure phosphate. If you want plant AND algae growth, I say use it. R/O Right is fine to reconstitute RO water...Electro Right has a better balance of trace elements, if I remember correctly.

None of this stuff will HURT plants. Don't know about shrimp. excess phosphate MIGHT scavenge some minerals from the water they need, but that is a guess.

Shady- You are Sooo right about Proper pH and also Seachem Neutral stabilizer. Forget using any phosphate based buffer with shrimp. It is also a sure formula for beard algae.

As to safe fish- After several months I can now say the Endler's Livebearers ( a wild small guppy) and Siamese Algae Eaters up to 3" (which is how big mine are) are safe even with tiny shimp. I watch several pass babies by even during feeding frenzies. Endlers have very samll mouths and they are not agressive. All the males want to do is mate, and all the females want to do is either hide, or have babies. They can't even eat their own babies.
