Feeding Asian Fan Shrimp

Feeding Asian Fan Shrimp
I just got an Asian Fan Shrimp for Christmas and I am not really sure how much to feed him. The pet store suggested algae pellets, so that is what I have been using. They are about the size of a quarter, so I break them in half and feed him one half once a week. All he does is eat, all the time. I don't want to overfeed him, but I don't want the poor little guy to starve, either. Is there any way to tell pre-death how often and how much to feed him? (He is in a 2.5 gallon tank with a male beta and a small snail, so any food that the beta misses he could possibly eat, too, if the snail doesn't get it first...)

Hi Jao and welcome to the forum.
Asian filter shrimp, just like the name states, is a filter feeder. Basically, they hang out near a current of water with their fans open and filters miniscule particles of food from it.
If you didn't mind a suggestion, the tank you have him/her in right now is much too small and he/she really shouldn't be in there with a betta. It's not just the lack of tank size, but there probably isn't much current in the tank either. If you do happen to get a larger aquarium, make sure it is properly cycled before adding shrimp.
With that said, I would only feed him/her sparingly; if you're directly feeding him/her, he probably gets enough to eat.
Here's a link to the Shrimp Varieties page for this shrimp: http://www.petshrimp.com/bambooshrimp.html Also, you can do some searches on this forum to glean more info.
