what kind of shrimp is it?

Post by PiotrRS »

Hey - I'm new user from Poland.
I keep two shrimps - photos below and I kind specify what type of shrimp is it.

First I thought it could be Palaemonetes paludosus or maybe Macrobrachium cf. assamense but than it must be some kind of different colour type or something. But than I've realized that I don't use alkaline water which those shrimps need and I have them for more than one year now...so...what is it?

Oh, I'm so sorry that I have never seen this species in my country. By the way, I'm curious to know how big they are.

Both of them are females I predict, they claws are transparent and I think males have bigger and black ones. Anyway, grown up are 4,5cm up to 5cm big and very lively. They do not hide, they don't attack fishes. Very interesting to watch.

Despite their different coloration they seem to be related to Macrobrachium lanchesteri. I know you do not have any males, but did they ever carry eggs? Were their eggs large or small?

These are very nice looking shrimp. I've only seen them once before, so they seem to be extremely rare. Any idea where they were imported from?
