What FW Shrimp species tolerate Hard Water and high ph?

I have upgraded my african cichlids to a larger tanks as they are growing so much.

I want to put FW shrimp into their old tank. It has a crushed coral sand substrate and the limestone type rocks.

Is there any suitable fw species that will tolerate such an environment??

I keep Cherries & Amano in the same water as my africans.

You could try Palaemonetes paludosus.

They're sold as feeder shrimp in a lot of stores, but in my opinion they deserve more respect. After they get settled in they make great inhabitants. Also they're cheap (important if you're new to shrimp).

Read through the shrimp varieties pages on this website. Most all freshwater shrimp will survive in high ph within reason, but some species may not breed. Snowball or red cherries are a good bet as long as the ph is stable they shouldn't mind. Good luck... shrimp are even more addicting than cichlids, in a couple of months you might be converting another cichlid tank to shrimp.
