Gouramis and shrimp.

I'd like to add a couple female dwarf gouramis to my tank, but for the safety of my Ghost and Cherry shrimp I wanted opinions before making any decisions.

Another one of those "great" questions....and another person who seems to think that reading my articles and searching the forum is a waste of time. You might want to try reading a few articles here, do a few searches etc. AND...what I said to xerxeswasachump in the following thread *JUST YESTERDAY* applies to you, too:

I did search the forum and I didn't get a good enough answer from previous posts, and which one of your articles talks about the compatibility of shrimp and Gouramis? Lets not go egomaniacal there Administrator.

For everyone else, if the following passage from my "How to keep dwarf shrimp" article does not explain why this person is not only rude but irresponsible and does not see an answer even if you stuck it in his face, then I don't know what will:

"Shrimp are great creatures in their own right and deserve to have a tank for themselves. The biggest mistake rookie shrimp keepers make is to throw their newly bought shrimp into their community tanks, never to see them again. Their shrimp constantly hide, due to fish picking at them, and eventually die either of stress or a fish making a feast of them. Trust me, even if you do not observe it, most fish pick at shrimp and harass them whenever they get a chance. Only in tanks where they are kept by themselves or with suitable tankmates (i.e. fish that cannot eat them or their young) do shrimp thrive and even breed. Suitable tankmates are fish that have specialized mouths such as Otocinclus, cories and plecos (Ancistrus species are best).All other fish will eat the young shrimp hatchlings even if some fish leave the adults alone."

And I just wrote this yesterday in another thread and gave this person a link to it too:

"So, bottom line, use the search button more efficiently and get informed better before asking a question that has been asked many times before. If you had actually read my article (at the least) you would know that anything with a normal fish mouth (as opposed to a "modified" one like a pleco) will eat at least juvenile shrimp. It makes no sense to come here and ask specificially if every one of the thousands of species of freshwater fish will eat shrimp. So, just because a species has not been mentioned here does not mean you cannot deduct very easily from what *has* been discussed if your fish will eat shrimp or not. It's just common sense. "

I have absolutely no patience with ignorant, lazy and irresponsible behavior. It really takes a minimum level of intelligence to keep *any* type of animal without torturing it unnecessarily....there is no way to sugarcoat this.

um, maybe i need to take my shrimp out of the tank with my female bettas and gourami then. i made the mistake of having some baby chichilds in with a male betta once, poor betta
