Substrate Question

I'm new to shrimp keeping and have set up a 20 gal. tank for Cherry Red shrimp only. I used playsand, a cream color, based on one of the Petshrimp articles. While doing additional research I noiticed comments that the shrimp may try to camouflage themselves. Are my red shrimp going to try to lighten their color to match the sand? Has anyone used playsand, how did it work out and what would you recommend for a substrate if not using sand?

I use play sand. No problem with color that I've noted.
