Blue Neocaridina
Will Bumblebee shrimp cross with Blue Neocaridina. I am thinking of housing both in the same 75 gallon but unsure if I really should. I would also like some red cherrys but it seems like I read somewhere that they would cross with the bumble bees. Sorry if this has been asked before, i tryed a search but didnt see anything.

As a general rule, keep shrimp of the same genus in separate tanks, and you don't need to worry about hybids if they are of different genus. Check the shrimp varieties page for the genus & species info. Because most (but not all) Caridina sp. need soft acidic water and most Neocaridina sp. need alkaline hard water, they should be kept in spearate tanks. Caridina cf. babaulti (the green guys) do fine in tanks with Red Cherries.
I wouldn't generalize about most Caridina needing soft, acidic water. It's just that a lot of the ones we are keeping prefer it that way. However, there are probably hundreds of Caridina species and a lot of them actually live in harder water and some even in brackish water (such as Caridina gracilirostris).badflash wrote:Because most (but not all) Caridina sp. need soft acidic water and most Neocaridina sp. need alkaline hard water, they should be kept in spearate tanks.
