Tiger shrimps and Red Cherry shrimps

Post by Oleg »

I really like both these species. I want to keep them in one tank, but I don't want them crossbreed.

So my questions are:

1. Is it ok to keep these shrimps together?
2. Will Tiger shrimps cross with Red Cherry shrimps?

Thanks a lot for answers!

These shrimp should not be able to cross since they are anatomically quite different. Having said that, you never really know what can cross with what since experience with shrimp hybrids are extremely limited.

Take care,

Well I have seen tiger shrimps that have red stripes instead of black. It might be a hybrid of tiger and cherry but its just my guess.

I would be surprised if the only visible difference in a RCS-TS hybrid is a shift in the TS's strip colors. It seems more likely that a red-striped TS is just a natural variation of TS (if not just a black striped TS in a different mood).

I would like to have some of those red tiger shrimp. Where is it that everyone seems to find these exotic new finds?

I would be just as surprised as Brad. :) I don't think those were hybrids.
