Is it OK to ask ?

Hello
After reading countless post on this web site, to obtain correct information about shrimp.
I am using it to ask the right question of the sellers, on my other favorite web site .

Is it OK to ask about a seller in this forum ?

I know Mustafa is on vacation.

Probably out collecting some rare species of shrimp.

We all hope so.

So until he returns, any comments ?

As long as people stick to the facts and it does not turn into slander or advertising, it is OK. I listed some of my experiences with other dealers just to warn people away from them.

I'd also steer clear of people that are in direct competition, but why would one bother when you have a know quantity here? I made a mistake and got what I thought was a good deal on ebay. Turns out these shrimp were mixed with wild types. Now I have a contaminated tanks that will take me some time to sort out the pure from the wilds and the hybrids.

Being new to Shrimp, and even newer to this forum. I read the post that you spoke of.

My first purchase of Shrimp was , what I thought to be 12 Cherry Reds.
I now have 6 tanks full of

Reds
Wild type- tanish brown with greenish brown eggs
2 lonely , what I think to be Greens

I order Snowballs from Mustafa, but, I have been bitten by the shrimp bug.

I am just like a little kid , I cannot wait for new shrimp to show up in the "Petshrimp Store".

They say, Good Things Come To those Who Wait , but, if I cannot, I would like to buy from a honnest person.

To keep my tank space, for housing different varieties and not for sorting.

It's ok to report about experiences you have had. But it's not ok to ask about who can sell you shrimp or where you can buy shrimp.

Although I did not specifically go on a shrimp collecting vacation I did come back with an extremely rare cave-dwelling Macrobrachium species in the end. This is the first time ever that anyone (scientists or hobbyists) is studying these animals in captivity.

I bought some Caridina cf.babaulti and they arrive DOA. with no reply to e-mails. that is wy I asked.
I will just mark it up to experience, and leave it at that.

Keep us updated on the Cave-dwelling Macrobrachium.

So post your experience and the dealer. Don't put in feelings, judgements or emotions, just facts. What your ordered, what you got, the condition of the shipment, your attempts at contact for redress, any response. This allows us to decide if we want to have anything to do with them.

Yes, please post your experiences. All I want to prevent here is people coming here and advertising for themselves or for their friends etc. or bashing competitors for no reason, but if there is a real story then the story should be told so others can benefit from it.

Unfortunately, there are more "black sheep" in the animal trade than in most other places and what you experienced is more the norm than the exception. Before I put up this website and informed people there were actually these black sheep running around telling everyone that it was "normal" that at least some shrimp die in transit (and they claimed that even for next day delivery). Now that they can't do that anymore they just don't reply to emails. So, go just ahead and tell your story.

As for the cave shrimp...no, they are not blind. These cave shrimp have adjusted to a cave lifestyle in geologically recent times, so they have lost some pigmentation but still have fully developed eyes (although they are useless in their habitats since it is pitch black in the water). A few thousand years from now they will probably lose their eyes, too, but we won't be around to witness that. I'll post some pictures of these shrimp, too. Although scientists descriped one Macrobrachium species from the cave I got them from I might have actually caught two different species...I'll have to wait and see after they grow some more. If there are in fact two different species of Macrobrachium in the cave I might have actually discovered a new species. Yay!
