Opague Ghost shrimp - cause?

Post by hardcyder »

I have searched the forums, but can't seem to find info. I know that ghost shrimp turning white is common, and it seems that they are the first to die, but what is the cause? Does anyone know the specific reason?

Maybe you did not search hard enough then. It's all there. ;) The reason they turn white is because of stress. Stress could come from adverse water conditions (ammonia, etc. but also wrong ph, and hardness), shipping stress and disease. Sometimes you see shrimp that are about to molt turn a slight milky color, too.
