Do You Feed?

Post by scrimp »

How often do you feed your shrimp in heavily planted shrimp only tanks? The shrimps stomachs always appear to be full I just sometimes wonder should I still feed in addition to.

I usually have fishes in with my shrimps in planted tanks, they will usually eat food that has fallen to the bottom of the tank. No worries there either.

I sometimes throw in some crab 'n lobster bites (HBH) at nite when the lights are out. This way the shrimps don't have to compete with the fishes for food.

My tank is shrimp-only (not counting the otos and snails  ), and I give them a bit of frozen spinach or some Hikari Crab Cuisine every couple days or so. They look like they're getting plenty to eat, but this way I make sure they're getting iodine in their diet, and I get to see them when they come out to eat.

The Japonica shrimps are never shy when it comes to food, so viewing them at your leisure during their feeding time is no problem but try viewing a VS eating ... hehehahahaha ... then your schedule have to revolve around them when they decide to come out to eat (in your presence, of course) :-D

I would boil or freeze it first to make it easier for the shrimps to eat it. I know my snails relish frozen spinach and even my dwarf crays will pick at it. I'd be interested to hear how your shrimp like it.

Does boiling it take away all of the good stuff from it you think? And when u freeze it what do u do just squish it into the ice cube trays?

I buy a box of frozen chopped spinach, cut a chink off and microwave it with a few drops of water for 10-15 sec to defrost.

When I use fresh mustard green I just dip them in boiling water for 15-20 sec till it wilts and then cool.

Also feed algae wafers, shrimp pellets, earthworm pellets and cyclops-eze

Shrimp eat most anything you throw at them. By the way...cyclop-eeze are not "cyclops" but is a micro-food for larvae and very small creatures in general.

Personally I don't "throw" food at the shrimp, mostly cause I have bad aim and it makes a mess on the floor.

Cyclop-eeze site.

They are small, very small, but even full my full grown angels go coo coo for cyclop-eeze. Every time I do a water change and then feed cyclop-eeze all the tetras spawn. I don't know what it is about this food but every tank inhabitant goes ape &#(@ over it. Even more so then when I feed live worms

Frozen, shave it off with a razor blade right into the tank.
