I have java moss in my tank and have never had yellow water. Have there been any recent changes you know of.

You can have leaves only, java only or both in a tank. They both provide a place for microorganisms to cultivate, providing food for the shrimp. As you know java moss also provides coverage for shrimp but you can use other plants for this.

Yellow water almost certainly means tannins. Tannins typically leach out from driftwood or else leaves.

How many oak leaves do you have, in what size tank? How long did you soak them before you put them in your tank?
