Good question, I have always kept my RCS in groups and not alone. They have always been social wether it is mating or during feeding time.
I have kept a large amano in a community fish tank as the only shrimp. He has just grown larger and seems to go about his daily business without a care. He actually ignores the fish until feeding time, when he makes sure he get his share.
