Brown Crystal Red?

I only have one Crystal Red now and I bought a bag of what LFS called Rainbow Diamond shrimps last week. I've watched them carefully and found that the Rainbow Diamond looks exactly the same as Crystal Red, the only difference is brown versus red. The Rainbow Diamond got same stripes over the body and four white dots on the tail. Could my shrimp friends tell me what species is it?

From your description without a picture, I believe it could actually be a Bumblebee shrimp. Since you live in HK (same country I was born and lived for a long time), those shrimps are quiet common there. One bumblebee strain has the brown and white color strips, and almost the same pattern as the CRS. I have some right now (same pattern) and I am trying to get them to breed (I believe they were imported from HK or China actually). I hope that answer your question. You can also check under the following link:

I hope that helps.

Without a picture it is going to be difficult to tell what it is.
It can be a bee shrimp as well. They do exhibit different tones of brown/blackish colors.
But i am 99% it is either a bee(Black Diamond as you may now it over there) or bumblebee as Kenshin says.

Oh yes ! I think so. Thanks for the pictures.
Will this species crossbreed with crystal red? If it will, what colour will the babies be?

I do not believe so as stated in the link. Right now I am housing them with CRS and Black Bee shrimps in my planted tank. But it will take a while before I know for sure if they cross or not. I will definitely update everyone here on how that goes (that is if my imported Bumblebee shrimps do not die first). Wish me luck!!!

Best wishes Kinshin

I am also keeping some bumblebee shrimp with my bee and CRS. I guess we will both be able to watch and see if they interbreed or not. Please keep us updated on your new shrimp.

I think I can do an accurate experiment. I believe my only Crystal Red is a female, so if she's pregnant, then I can see the colour of the babies. Well, I can know the true answer if the other Rainbow Diamond shrimps don't get pregnant so I won't mix them up. Very well, let me try my luck
