Green Red Tail Shrimp?

Post by AnneRiceBowl »

I couldn't find one thing about this shrimp. I also don't know the scientific name. Has anyone heard of these? Have any info?

I am still waiting on his reply. They should be arriving at his place this Sunday. So, I should have them in a week or 2. They're coming in all the way from Hong Kong.

Alright kids, I got a response from him. He doesn't have pics nor the scientific name for the shrimp. He did tell me that he will send me some pics once the shrimp arrive. So...as soon as I get the pics, I'll post them here for everyone to see. That's the best I can do for now.

Probably a wild caught shrimp. Hopefully it will not be needing saltwater like amanos do.

If it's the usual "green red-tail" shrimp coming from Hong Kong, it's neither green, nor does it have a red tail. It's a Neocaridina species...again, most likely a "wild-type" Neocaridina denticulata sinensis (=N. heteropoda) but it's most definitely a Neocaridina...

It's amazing what kind of totally non-descriptive names exporters come up with.... The problem is also that exporters tend to send whatever they have (even if it's different species on different occasions) under the same "common" name.

Well, then if I don't like them, they may be put on aquabid. LOL Tank space is is a high commodity in my apartment.

Oh yeah, I am also getting bumble bee shrimp. If neither of the two or none of the shrimp that I ordered come in, then the back ups are blue shrimp and zebra shrimp. So, I guess it's a bit of a lottery thing.

argblarg, sure thing! Next on my list are green shrimp, and if the same guy has blue zebras, I'll go ahead and get those, too. I may just get them from aquabid. At least with shipping to you, it's nil! LOL Remember, if you want, we can go in together with orders to save on shipping.

NS, yes! I can't wait for Sunday!

I need more tanks! I am selling my 3 SAEs and 5 harlequin rasboras so I can use their tank for shrimp. I still don't a bug...

Folks....discuss your trading/buying "going together to order from someone" issues offline (PM, email, phone...etc.), not in the forum. It's against the rules and as the rules say, this is not a market place nor a bazaar. The forum is solely for the exchange of information and most people here like it that way.
