Substrate
Currently I do not have any substrate. The tank bottom was initially clean but now has detritus in unsightly little piles like dust bunnies. I haven't removed the detritus as I am not sure I even should. I was thinking of adding some puca shell mostly for the aesthetics. Sand and gravel is boring as is crushed coral. Would adding two pounds to a 10 gallon tank be a problem?
Re: Substrate
Don't suck up anything. Whatever you add, just add it gradually.

Re: Substrate
Thank you for your input. If I add the puka shell I will do it sparingly and over time.

Okay then how are we doing water changes? I have sand and bare bottom tanks. Water changes every week, you gotta suck it up somewhere.Mustafa wrote:Don't suck up anything. Whatever you add, just add it gradually.

What exactly is your question? Of course you have to suck up the water. I'm talking about vacuuming the gravel or the bottom. You can go ahead and do that but don't be surprised when you suck up tons of young shrimp in the process.
