Whiteback Shrimp?

Post by wskurdahl »

So I got some shrimp from aquabid that were IDed as Whiteback shrimp. I heard that they are suppose to breed in freshwater but I noticed a berried female the other day and it has really small eggs. I am not sure what I have is actually whitebacks and I was hoping someone could help me.

Looks like you fell prey to someone who sells shrimp as a certain variety without really being sure what they exactly they are. People come to my website all the time and decide that their unidentified shrimp must be one of the varieties listed here. Anyway, your shrimp are definitely not whitebanded (or whiteback as your sellers calls them) shrimp. Your shrimp is a variety of shrimp that is imported from southeast asia once in a while. It produces larvae that need saltwater to survive.
