Mag-float algae scraper safe?

Post by Aquarimax »

I've seen posts about the safety of tiny magnets, like the ones used in ecospheres. I'm wondering whether the much larger Mag-floats are safe. I've read that neodymium magnets like those used in Mag-floats have been shown to cause some sort of disturbance to sharks' sense of electrical fields in saltwater. I have a medium (the blue model for size reference) Mag-float in my 10-gallon opae'ula tank, just for the front glass. I wonder if it might cause any problems for the shrimp.

I've had a mag-float scraper for years on my large 110 gallon living room tank...no problems with any animals showing any symptoms of anything. I just bought a small one for my shrimp tanks (two weeks ago), tried it out...nothing unusual. I don't leave it in the tank as some people do...I take it out as soon as I am done cleaning.
