Shrimp ID

Post by S »

I bought these under the name "black algae eating shrimp". Can anyone ID them further? Please ignore the cherry shrimp!

The two on the left look similar to a shrimp I received from India once. It was brownish and looked like a green shrimp externally. However, it had tiny eggs compared to the eggs of the green shrimp.

Your shrimp might also be stressed out green shrimp...wait and see if they change coloration and turn green.

In any case...there are so many undescribed or unidentified shrimp species out there that you will get the "no idea what they are" answer quite often.

Thanks for all your help. The picture was taken the first day the shrimp were added to the tank. Today I did notice where one has changed from the brownish color seen in the photo to a more greenish coloring. If I assume these are Caridina cf. babaulti spp. 'green' do I need to worry about them crossbreeding with my cherry shrimp?
