Green hair algea

Post by SPELLBOUND »

]Hi guys, I have had my set up for about 7 months now, its a 90 litre tank so a decent size for these. Anyway I added a small inch size of microalgae to tank when I purchased my shrimp. Have about 40 shrimp and no signs of breeding yet. Microalgae is now a considerable size, several inches.
My question is can this Algae grow on the lava rock I have in the tank. I thought it was all covered in hair algae, but when I went to pull some out it felt course and wiry unlike hair algae. So I've decided to leave it in and grow. Am I right or wrong. Checked salinity today also and it was high at 1.020 even though a month or so ago it was reading 1.015. ??? So took some water out and added fresh RO water. Took another reading and now reads 1.010 so hopefully better breeding conditions.

It does not look like macro growing on the lava rocks. Hair algae? I can not tell from the pic but it probably is.

Really hard to tell what the alage on the rocks are. If you've been feeding heavily it could be hair algae. Did you use RO water from the start or tap? If there's too much unwanted nutrients you can always do a water change.
