Argonite a good pH Buffer?

Post by Bryan »

Purchased argonite substrate. Not the live type. Is it necessary to add calcium Carbonate Rocks to this or will the argonite function in this capacity?

You are good to go with just the aragonite.

If I could tag on here: is there such a thing as too much buffering? I didn't take into account my sand was already aragonite and I crushed up some shells and mixed them into the substrate. Then I stuck a piece of coral for decor in there as well. Can this be harmful?
