Copper in food?

Post by Bryan »

Is copper in shrimp food to be avoided? I have been using Hikari shrimp pellets and just now noticed it contains copper.

It's a long ongoing debate. Some say the amount is not enough to be toxic to invertebrates, some say to avoid anything with added copper. This is mostly talking about invertebrates such as freshwater shrimp and snails. Personally, I try to avoid it as much as possible. Since these shrimp are so small, I would tend to stay on the safe side and not feed anything with added copper. They are tough little buggers though and much hardier than their freshwater counterparts.

All Hikari foods nave added copper sulfate which they claim is a very miniscule amount. Omega One products do not have added copper in any form.

Thanks. Might as well stay on the safe side. At least it was cheap!
