New shrimp

Post by prairieshrimp »

I just got 14 new shrimp on thursday, 7 red rili's and 7 blue vlelvets, and 2 so tiny couldnt tell, of course newbies no one knew about. The 1st about 10 hours they were all over the place, swimming swimming swimming. Since then I only see about 5 or 6 at a time. The red rili's seem to be more active than the blue velvets. the blues are more reclusive. I haven't read anything about the blues being like that. Is this normal? All my water parameters are good and they are eating, but not the bio film that's built up. Any advice , is this all normal?

Those shrimp will need to be fed regularly. They are nowhere as easy to keep as the Opaes. They also need heat and a sponge type filter. Good luck. I failed miserably at keeping them. I bought about 35-40 over a year's period. None lived longer than 90 days and they never bred. The blue ones did seem to be more reclusive.
