A friend of my wife gave her a bottle of shrimp recently, and she's had no end of fun watching and naming them... Unfortunately, all but one of them suddenly died within a week of receiving them.
They came in a glass bottle with a wine-bottle type top. She did nothing to them, having been told that she didn't have to feed them or change the water... It doesn't make sense to me, but that was what she said she was told..
The shop replaced the shrimp, which arrived today.. Now she has a dozen shrimp in a bag, and she is afraid to put them in the original bottle, for fear that something in there killed them.
Having no experience with this whatsoever, we are looking for advice. She has a much larger antique mason bottle that she wants to set up for the new ones, but we do not know how to set this up so that the shrimps will thrive..
Can someone help?
Thanks.

There is a wonderful tank setup document on the main page of Petshrimp.com
In addition to that. Aquarimax pets has great resources as well.
TL;DR;
1/2 gal tank or larger, I like 2.5
substrate if not using a calcium based substrate add crushed calcium.
Brackish water 1.008-1.016.
Macro algae will help the tank cycle faster
Let cycle usually 4-8 weeks
Add Malaysian trumpet snails.
Add shrimp and enjoy
This is just the minimum that will allow them to thrive.
Anyone else can chime in if I missed something.
