Shrimp tank - how to proceed
OK I know shrimp are extremely sensitive to Ammonia, Nitrate and Nitrite, so I need a plan. I have cycled my 5g tank using a fishless cycle and have now finished. I have a catfish in there to keep the bacteria fed. I'm worried about the changeover to RCS as they produce very little waste I've heard and I don't want the nitrobacteria to die off resulting in an ammonia spike that could kill the shrimp. I'm also worried about dumping say 20 - 30 individuals into the tank in one go just in case they indeed do produce a fair amount of waste and the filter can't take it and again I get a spike! What is the best way to proceed?
if you cycled the tank right i would add 5 in at once everyday or every other day, some would say all at once is best. but the bacteria wont die in there. it will die down to where it can handle the population bioload but u wont get a spike down it dies off, u have to worry about is not enough bacteria thats the scary part.
AND shrimps arent that sensitive to NO3 nitrate
