Phytoplankton on the cheap
When I lived in Los Angeles near the beach I'd simply grab a bucket of seawater, leave it on my desk and shortly it'd turn green. I'd put baby brine shrimp in it and they'd feed off it and grow into adults. What would happen if you grabbed a bucked of saltwater from somebody's marine tank the next t...

New pics of bamboo/wood shrimp and vampire shrimp
Hey folks; I finally got off my lazy butt and posted a few pics of Atyopsis moluccensis and Attya gabonese, the latter being the most scretive shrimp I've ever had, but also the most personality. You would swear they're the smartest shrimp around too. People feed these things? I don't, they just liv...

I feed my Ammanos live white worms. Not intentionally, but they will steal them right out of a killifish's mouth if they have the chance. They go nuts over these things that are far from dead or small. They're utterly voracous -and it's not like they don't have lots of different algae and plants to ...

Shrimps in Japan
Ed Venn In Japan explained to me breeders there are breeding shrimp like crazy and culling out and reproducing the unusual ones. Here's a few pictures from auctions in Japan he sent me: http://img3.dena.ne.jp/ex31/20050118/194/43545538_2.JPG http://img3.dena.ne.jp/ex31/20050118/194/43545538_3.jpg ht...

I found this in my tiger shrimp tank today: http://rs79.vrx.net/works/photoblog/2005/Jan/15/DSCF0005s.jpg That tank has all manner of odd invertibrates in it that can only have come in on plants (there's a lot of new ones in there, all from Oriental). All shrmip are accounted for so I *guess* damsel...

Black Bumblebee Shrimp
If any of you have been around in fish circles on the net for a while you may remember Ed Venn. He moved to Japan and has some black bumblebee shrimp and is eager to send some back to the US. You can probably find his address anywhere but if not drop me a line at richard at aquaria dot net and I'll ...

Amazing photographs, among the better ones 've seen. What kind of camera did you take this with exactly if I may ask? I have an old Kodak DC260 which now has a busted flash and broken USB connector so I bought a $99 Fuji A 201 till I can get something better. I'm thinking of an old Nikon 950 or if I...

Hello, I just wanted to know what to feed my shrimps and what you guys consider ideal and the best to get maximum growth and health. Thanks. My small shrimp just eat wlgae and whatever else they find growing in their tanks. Other than the odd snail that's all that's in there, -except for come cyclo...

I'm in a planted tank forum, wich much discussion about shrimp, and I've never heard of anything like amanos eating plants... I'd assume I would have if it's common at all. Long nosed/red-nosed shrimp will utterly deciment Egeria najas if there's no other food but I've never seen an Ammano eat live...

Re: Are these crystals or what?
Also, what is 'the best' algae eating shrimp..ken I have cherry, ammano, tiger, taiwan blue, red nose, bulblebee, sand, weird longnose, and weird brown shrimp. The ammanos are the best algae eaters I've found. The red nosed shrimp are a close second, the rest a distant third. The ammanos are so muc...
