Re: Halocardina Rubra update
Okay, It has been over 7 months. A new baby girl keeps daddy busy. Anyways I had a "Triops" kit. the triops food ran out so I got the (Tetra and the Wardley Shrimp Pellets) bottom feeder pellets and crushed them up to feed them. Well they died after their expected lifespan. No worries. I f...

Iron
Darn, I can't find the article but I think a study done by auburn university where it was remarking the iron rich content of the lava pools and the bacteria mats that they typically feed on. Oh well, I will stay away from iron, I am doing an experiment with gracileria in a 5 gal tank where I am tryi...

Hmmm Breeding notes
BadFlash, I am thinking that the feeding has illicited a feeding response for me. I use green water, or prepared phytoplankton (DTs), Sea Veggies (I got some from Julian Sprung some time ago and still have bottles left that I freeze), nori sheets, and my coral mix. I use very minute amounts and if I...

Bad Flash
I do have some, how many are you looking for. I don't really sell them. I use them in my nano tanks and nano reef tanks. I need the extra for my seahorses. I am just trying to come up with a scenerio to breed them.

Lessons Learned Continued
Lessons Learned Sorry ran out of room on the last one. Lesson 2 2. Bring Temperature up. My rubra never seemed active. I acidently brought temperature up to about 78-80 degrees during a water change. Boy their activity really increased. They stayed out a lot more now. And I noticed teeny ones. Lesso...

Update 8 May 2007
Well, once a couple of years ago I replied with a tank I had set up and I am quite proud of it actually. I started with about 500 Rubra. I would take about 6-8 out a week to feed my horses and stopped after probably about a 100 since it seemed they declined rather rapidly. About 100-200 went to fell...

I had to comment....it is so sad....I have endeavored so much of my time and resources to NOT Having algaes in my Reef tanks, I can't grow it when I actually want some....... Sorry it looks good. Ray BTW has anyone else figured out how much more active the rubra are. I added a heater to my 20 gal ta...

I should post my own thread. I have kept these for about a month. I kept my salinity at 1.0145 per Ocean Rider's Directions. Their red gracileria that comes with the shrimp sure disappears fast. I have probably lost about 50-100 from this tank this month. This was due to some from shipping (20 give ...

Identify this specisis
I hope mustafa has the answer, but I bought a half dozen cherry shrimp from a bunch of planted tank enthusaists here in atlanta. One of my shrimp looks like a cherry shrimp but its coloration is browning ( Still kinda red like a cherry though) in my tank. It looks like it has filter feeder claws tho...

Iodide
I used to use aobut 1/4 dosage on my Hawaiian tank, but stopped. It seems that the water changes with salt provides enough iodide if the food does not.

I have been using Chaeto with great success. I am using turtle grass because I am using it a dwarf seahorse tank. It seems to work but becareful of the rizones. I am using a 4.5 inch sandbed. Razor Calurpa which is probably from the same family as the feather stuff seems to grow as well, a bit slow ...

Lava Rocks....Mine seem to thrive with them. I paid 4.07 with tax to buy 100 percent lava rock for decorating gardens. It was a 50 pound bag. You do have to rinse it somewhat, but they seem to like it. I use a spongefilter but I have it buried in the lava rock. It is my attempt to force water curren...

What is your Salinity? I have been aiming at 1.015 but i am thinking that I need to drop it a bit more. I have larva but they seem to disappear into the mound of lava rock i have in my tank. I top off with RO/DI water but as I keep reef tanks it is not an issue. But I do water changes with old tank ...
