kind of shrimp

I have red cherries And I did put a sponge in my saltwater tank. It looks really nice in there. Sponges are from the ocean so figured it was safe. If it doesn't hurt a shrimp who are super senstive to anything how could it be bad for anything else. I might even give my beta one to sit on since there...

Hi, I haven't posted in a long time but I still have shrimp. Finally made it to my Walmart to get a bag of these sponges last night. Soaked one in treated water overnight, Just put it in my tank a few minutes ago. It looks nice and has shrimp checking it out. None have gone crazy. This particular ta...

So does this plantless tank have a substrate and rocks or anything or is it just bare with oak leaves on the bottom? Don't the shrimp like to have something to climb on or hide under?

Just a question about the leaf litter. What would be the maximum # of oak leaves you can add to a 10 gal. without effecting the PH of the water ? It all depends on how long the leaves had been lying on the ground before you collected them and how long you soaked them. The longer a leaf has been lyi...

Java moss is not so slow growing .Here's a quote from another site and there were many more like this indicating how much it grows and how quickly: A little bit goes a long way: the thinner this is spread over rocks and driftwood, the better it will root itself and the prettier and healthier it will...

I have java moss and christmas moss that has really taken over my tank. I thought all this nice moss was good for them. Is this another case of too much of a good thing? My shrimp do ok but don't thrive and I don't have nearly as many as I think I should at this stage based on the numbers some of yo...

See them

I have a bubble powered under gravel filter. Most of the shrimp live under the filter, but they do come out once in a while. Since I put in the Chaetomorpha I see them much more often. I want to be able to see them. I have them right near where I eat and I like watching them even though they are ti...

What about calcium hardness? Basalt is pretty low in calcium. I'm wondering if high calcium will effect color or reproduction. I don't think you have to worry about calcium or anthing. If you're worried about it, you can always put some crushed coral into the tank. All I know is that my H. rubra ha...

feeding Opae Ula

Thanks for the tip on how you feed the powder. Mixing it does seem like a good idea. I am going to try that next feeding day for my opae ula

You can also find this powder at almost any health food/ vitamin place.

I suck them out with a turkey baster .

I use the turkey baster to clean small areas of gravel too. Don't have room to use a vacuum of any kind because of plants . But I have one area where I feed algae wafers and I use the baster to remove the leftovers

I like the eclipse systems. They are quiet and I seem to have a very stable tank now that is has been running for a while. You will need to put something around the intake to keep babys from being sucked up. Everything is nicely contained. Mine is sitting where I can see it from all sides so that wa...
