You don't have to post the name of the site, it's obvious where something nonsensical like this would come from. There is only one place in the whole US that has been consistently spreading crap like this and it happens to be in my favorite state and my prior home (Arizona). Azgardens has been at it for a few years now.
Anyway, both the "common name" and the "scientific name" are made up. All the other "information" (or should I say misinformation?) is wrong, too, including the blurb about them breeding "blue" shrimp for a year. That place is a typical import place and if there is any reproduction going on, then it's more accidental than anything. Plus, if they actually bred this shrimp they would quickly find out that the offspring are *never* blue. That's because this is exactly the same shrimp (a Neocaridina species by the way) that is described as "Neocaridina sp. "blue"" on my shrimp varieties page.
And the bold part is, of course, utter and complete nonsense. Reading anything that this place writes is utterly aggravating to me. And there was actually a time when I offered to help them and correct all that misinformation. The owner gladly took my help (I corrected all the scientific names at some point, before they messed it all up again, and provided other info) until I actually made the mistake of ordering shrimp from this place. Then he stopped replying to my complaints about dead and wrong shrimp arriving.
Not only did I receive 50%-80% dead shrimp on arrival, with the rest dying one by one over a period of days, but I also received some wrong shrimp instead of the ones I ordered. They usually give you "house credit" for dead animals and expect you to pay another about $45.00 in shipping to get your "house credit." Well, I complained and got "the man" (the owner) to send me a "replacement." However, same result. Dead, missing and wrong shrimp. Complained again etc...etc...long story...but at some point my emails were not answered and I just gave up. Lost about $200.00 and got a bunch of dead, half-dead and above all WRONG animals in return. Buyer beware! This ordeal lasted about three months with me waiting for my replacement every week, but the owner coming up with excuses why it never shipped. Many people have made the same experiences and if you do a search here in the forum and on other forums you will see some reports that all sound similar. I'm sure many more out there have not spoken out because they don't know any better. After all, Azgardens wants you to believe that it's normal that shrimp die during shipping. In their own words: "...you should count on some losses from the stressful transit." And we're talking about NEXT DAY delivery here. Funny, how I've been sending out thousands of shrimp and not a *single* one has die from "stressful" transit. Out of these THOUSANDS of shrimp I've had one bag leak and one heat pack malfunction (got too hot) and that's all the deaths I've had. That's a survival rate of approximately 99.99%. And now get this, my priority mail shipments take 2-3 days to arrive! So, obviously I do NOT think that it's normal that shrimp should die in transit. If you are consistently gettin dead animals from a place, it means only one thing: the shrimp were half-dead to begin with even before they were put in the shipping bag...not a rare occurrence with imported shrimp kept under miserable, overcrowded conditions.
The one positive thing that came out of places like Azgardens spreading nonsense was the establishment of Petshrimp.com. I just could not watch all the nonsense anymore without doing anything about it.....
