No, live corals need full ocean strength salinity and also need be fed much more frequently than our shrimp. I'm not aware of any brackish water corals. You can add dead or fake coral from the store.

Is crushed coral beneficial for my tank? I already have aragonite sand. I've heard differing opinions on this, but most say that since aragonite sand has calcium that I should be okay... You're my final vote :smt005

Is there such a thing as TOO much calcium for Opae Ula??

Nope, it will dissolve at the rate it is needed to buffer the water. Set it and forget it!

You won't need to add more. It dissolves very very slowly, and only as needed.

So apparently my baby MTS have an appetite for the super shrimp mossball! Just look at how much they chomped away in a few days!

I saw one baby snail snacking on it and made a dent already a few days ago, but I thought it’d soon grow tired of it.

I transferred the mossball to another Opae Ula tank. Hopefully it will do better there without the explosion of baby snail population (10+).

Perhaps its only an issue with the MTS? As shown in the video in the following link, Mustafa has a whole tank of moss balls with a lot of what look to be the Tarebia snails. https://www.petshrimp.com/product/super ... algaeball/

Yeah I'm not sure, the adult snails didn't bother with the mossball.

How do you know they're actually eating it? I have both adults and juvies of both species in with them...no problems at all. Sometimes when the mossballs grow they become all disheveled looking and change their shape. Do you have before and after pics of the mossball?

I took an after picture (3-4 posts below), but I have to find the before one. I suspected it was eaten because in the course of a few days it was half way chomped down. Now in the new tank it's growing back bit by bit.

Here is a baby mossball, you can see the bigger one as a comparison. I'd say it's been 5-6 months since I purchased these from Mustafa. The baby could have been growing already but if it was, I didn't see it.

Thanks Malikta for the pic! That’s a baby mossball alright  So I had another observation on the mossballs. The second one I got from Mustafa is doing really well in my second tank, many smaller balls already established after a few months. It looks more coarse than the first ball (that is still recovering from being eaten to half of its original size), as the first ball is more feathery-looking.

To answer your question skylorvivo88, the mossballs I got are both about 3/4 inch in water. That’s as big as they get.

I got three moss balls from Mustafa at different times, and now I have three very tiny ones in my first tank. They are really small though - probably only a couple of mm in size. They started “dividing” about a month ago - does this “reproduction” length vary? :?:
