It probably depends on the species of shrimp/cray too.

But in the very minute quantities that might be left in the coral sand, I think you will be fine either way.

Let us know how it goes.

Hmm, yes it does make sense to quarantine new genetic material. I didn't think it was necessary, but I was curious about what other people do. With fish it's wise to quarantine EVERYTHING that comes into the tank. But I guess with shrimp, there really aren't 'contagious' diseases. Good to know. I li...

Just from casually looking around the tank, I count eleven baby RCS. I can see a little red coloration already in a few too. Also, there are about eight females with almost full saddles. The Amanos seem to want to take the food first. When I put the flakes in, the Amanos are the first to dash out an...

Heres a Tank-Shot: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c285/pufferfish_/Tank-Shot.jpg I haven't done much aquascaping yet. I really don't like the substrate either, but I'm going to have to live with it. I guess the tank looks kinda okay...I learn a little more aquascaping with each setup. -John (Yes,...

Looking good! I look forward to seeing you're progress. I have a pond too, though I don't keep crays in it, I keep a Northern Pike! Along with schools of minnows, and the massive number of things that lives there. Its a REALLY big pond that me and my family dug out maybe 8 years ago. We are moving s...

No pics of the bluish amanos yet, although I did observe the new Amanos try to hide right after introduction. The existing Amanos tried piggybacking on the new Amanos. I observed the same hide/piggybacking behavior when I introduced my first Amanos. I'm going to try raising larvae of the Amanos. Her...

wijnands, With such a small amount of water, you will need to diligently and frequently check the health of the water. There is no margin for error, especially with shrimp being very vulnerable to ammonia and nitrates. I definitely agree, pixl8r. wijnands, Why not go for a 10g tank? They are usuall...

Just picked up some bluish amanos. :-)

I'll get some pics later.

One of the females is almost berried too.

I also got 2 free small pond snails. I'll be looking for some MTS too.

I'll get a tank shot up later. :D

Just installed a sponge on the filter intake. We will see if it is small enough to prevent baby RCS from being sucked in. It is a Power Head Pre-Filter Sponge. Also, just an observation, but the tank appears to be very healthy - there are lots of little 'bugs' running around on the glass, just like ...

Shrimp Quarantine Protocol

Well, I searched the forum and could not find any definitive answers. With all fish aquariums, it's always best to always QT EVERYTHING. You never know what parasites might be on the new plant, whats in with that snail..etc. etc. Is it necessary to quarantine shrimp, that would be going into an inve...

John, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of substrate is that? It looks nice.

Can't wait to hear you're progress. :D

I'm considering this species for my next shrimp tank... :-)
