I am adding co2 which lowers the ph. Ferts are KNO3, K2SO4 and flourish. It is a medium to high light tank with 330 Watts of power compacts. I usually do 30-40% water change once a week with occasional slips to once every two weeks (I cut the ferts then). I usually add a 1/2 gallon of RO water a day...

Here are a few links for background: http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-cycling.html You can help by adding some gravel from an established tank or purchase live bacteria to assist. If you can find fresh refrigerated BIO-Spira - that has live bacteria. At this point you probably just want to watch the amm...

I aim for 20-30 ppm of Nitrates but my tank is very high growth and I usually run at 10-15 ppm. At least that is what it tests too. I don't add anything to raise the PO4 on purpose. I'm still trying to figure out what has raised that so high as my tap water is not that bad.

Interesting thread. I had a large number of rcs and mts snails in my planted tank that died off almost over night. I couldn't figure out what happened so I have never restocked. I have one large apple snail that blissfully continues roaming the tank. It was however roughly about the time when I star...

I couldn't find any of them when I went looking again. Not sure from what legitamate infromation I have read I would have the equipment, time & patience to successfully raise them anyway. The red cherry young are all over and seem to be doing well in the overflow filter box. I figure I'll leave ...

Caridina japonica larvae?

I have quite a few amano and red cherry shrimp in my 120g. While netting a few of the smaller red cherry's out of my over flow (in a white brine shrimp net) I noticed a very small dark wiggler. It's almost only eyes and a tail. I found quite a few of them in the overflow. Some of the larger ones rem...

I didn't expect much as I had so little information. I was unsure if the color change was normal after death or a clue to the cause. At least I know that now. I'll watch the others to see what happens.
Thanks

Amano death

I recieved 5 Amano shrimp recently and have watched them enjoy the algae that was over running my tank. This afternoon though one of them molted and died shortly thereafter (on the other side of from where he molted). It turned a almost cherry red. This mean anything? This is a planted tank running ...
