by above setting , the casualty rate is zero! To my understanding, low in PH will cause shrimp's shell hard to strengthen; especially after they change shell.

It is very interesting to hear from most of you that CRS (or any other Caridina serrata species) prefers soft and acidic water... :roll:

I have been keeping shrimp as hobby for some times now and in my past experience, my shrimps are most lively and active when the PH is around 6.5-7.2 ...

mmh... I have a planted tank and I use CO2 daily (around 8 hrs) while my PH level is around 6.5 and my shrimps seem to be very happy! Just found two Bees pregrant again...ee..eee

but wouldn't the 'lowered PH' causes the water acidic, and thus makes it hard for the shrimps to strengthen their shells after molting?

In my experience, all the shrimps I've come across enjoy water with PH around 7. Acidic water seems harmful to their shell! :evil:

Mustafa, I do suggest you put this new "Red Nose" variety in your variety page for the following reasons:

1. let more people know this species exist
2. open up more ...

Long time no talk, how's the 'world of shrimp' these days? Though I was bit occupied by my work lately, my shrimps do take care of themselves nicely. I manage to find a pregant shrimp in the tank every two weeks! (I'm happy with that result). :-D

Anyway, now that it's near the year-end ...

I have some pretty red red-cherry, but never never see one as bright as yours. Good for you!!!

Hope their next generation will be as red as this.

Long time no see, just got back from Canada. Very happy to see so many many new posts! (need some times to finish reading them!) :-D

Anyway, talking about "stripe" at the back, the only species I encountered so far that doesn't have the "stripe" is the "bees" family...

Any idea what ...

some fish such as the SAE eat algae, but then not too recommend in a shrimp tank since they move very fast and thus hard to remove from tank afterward.

I know that is my wishful thinking! In future, I do hope I can bring some to Canada, but anyone knows their regulation / procedure?

I'm afraid your method is a bit dangerous for shrimps since they are very sensitive to variation in water content (such as variation in Ammonia & PH level)... Thus mixing old water to new water is essential (at least it makes sense to me).

That's interesting but confusing as well. As quoted in the "Shrimp Varieties" section:

" With the bee shrimp the head is white, whereas the bumblebee shrimp has a black head ."

By that definition, most of the bees from the picture above have 'white' head instead of 'black', so should they be ...
