Half of these names someone somewhere pulled out of their butt. No way of knowing for sure what it is without the latin name. It's usually Atyopsis moluccensis I think, but the term "flower" could easily apply to any filter shrimp. Atya gabonensis is blue, but is often brown when young. Wo...

Oooohh nice... I'm envious.

I'd just use the amano breeding method and if it fails, well, at least we have a little more information.

Maybe you should ship that shrimp to Mustafa and let him keep her for a month or so. Or me. :)

Check out ADA Aquasoil as a substrate. I'm not sure yet how similar or different their varieties are, but "Amazonia" at least is known to take pH down 1-1.5.

You can always get something like this: http://www.pennplax.com/Images/AQUAscans/Filters%20Various/BF1-The_Bubbler.jpg Put a sponge, carbon, zeolite, ceramic beads, whatever you want in it. Though you might get babies who decide to live in there, and you have to let them out when they can't fit thro...

I personally wouldn't spend much on a sponge filter. If there's enough room for enough bacteria, I'm happy with it. I don't expect much out of it filtration-wise, because you don't use one because they're good, you use one because they're safe. On bigger shrimp tanks I use a cannister filter that fi...

Most aquatic plants will grow better emersed than submersed because CO2 is something like 10,000 times more available from the air than from the water due to how slowly it diffuses. Any plant growing under water is actually inherently handicapped. It's an evolutionary "sacrifice" you could...

I've always wanted to do a book cover (I don't do it as much anymore but I have a graphic design background). I'd probably do it for free just for the experience of it. Something to bring up with the publisher. :)

I'm going to attempt it as soon as I get some eggs. I think my shrimp are too young still.

When I do it I'm going to treat them as amano shrimp. I don't think we really have anything else to go on as of yet.

Mustafa, is there any chance the magazine would give you a PDF of the article that you could make accessible here? Maybe after the magazine is considered part of their archives? When my web design clients have articles written about them, the magazine will often give them the PDFs without any hassle...

I hadn't heard of the Heather Canderlaria method, but looking over the article I don't have much faith that she knows what she's doing. :) I plan on taking advice from both Mike Noren and this person: http://caridina.japonica.online.fr/English/index.html I haven't attempted it yet, but with all the ...

I just ordered a ton of amanos in order to kickstart my breeding attempts. I'll have them next week and hope to at least partly document it. So I guess we're in the same boat. :)

Hmm, googling them doesn't get me anywhere either... maybe no news is good news?

Ok, since there isn't any experience with them here, I guess I should be the one to take the plunge and report back to the forum on how it goes, if you guys are interested.

I picked a thread where the store in question was already asked about, figuring that since it wasn't locked or criticized, it might be kosher. A search for the store in question yielded no posts where someone mentioned firsthand experience with them, so how I'm supposed to guess who to PM, I have no...

Does anyone have experiences with aquatic-store?

I'm curious about the quality of aquatic-store. I have about an $80 purchase I'd like to make at their store (my main priority is pearl shrimp, and these are the only people I can find besides the infamous azgardens that carry them), but naturally I'd prefer not to if they have a bad rep. Has anyone...
