Is Plastic Decor safe?
I am moving my Opae Ula to a new home( I'm relocating to a different location). I wanted to try to have some plastic decor and I am wondering if there's success story with them. ( I am very suspicious that it might leak poisonous things.) A picture of my new tank. WechatIMG1.jpg PS, I'm pretty sad t...

Re: Shrimp stays near surface walls
I just performed a partial water change and now they are disturbed. Still, a good number of them(all young ones) hanging around the surface. Now I believe the young ones are just used to chilling near surface since the spirulina powder was on the surface... The fact that I did a water change...

Shrimp stays near surface walls
I need some help. My shrimp and shrimplets are staying near the surface of my tank wall quite often lately. I still see some in lower part of the tank but it's much less than ones near the surface. The bigger ones used to stay on the top of my volcanic rock or down below the rock but they now stop h...

Re: Interesting Behavior
Usually the berried female will act strangely( especially when they just got berried or first time berried). I assume that they are not used to the pain to become berried(imagine the pain for human to give birth) or carrying eggs around the first time. I might be dramatic, but i think it's normal fo...

Re: A year later and no babies.
Get more rocks, volcanic or limestone. Mine is volcanic. Hiding places are a must for breeding.

Re: A year later and no babies.
Sometimes some male shrimp is just not interested in reproducing. I fed my shrimp once in a couple of weeks and they finish the food in a about 2-3 hours. They reproduce rapidly. Ordered more and wait for a couple of months and see how things go.

Baby Opae ula poop too long
I recently noticed that some of my opae ula baby shrimp tend to have very long poop. I've noticed the longest has about at least 15x-20x times of its body length. I also noticed some are even trapped and struggled to get out because the poop get entangled with volcanic rocks. Is it normal or...

Re: 1st Berried Shrimp! What to expect?
Usually the eggs will take a couple weeks to fully drop. The leftovers are probably bad eggs that will drop next time she molt. At least that's my exp.

Re: Shipped a Berried Shrimp?
I had that once. I received a shrimp with two eggs attached. But she end up dropping all of them( I also changed my tank once) and the eggs that dropped didn't manage to hatch after I picked them to a separate container. If I were you, I will let her do her own thing with zero disturbance. After a f...

Re: 1st Berried Shrimp! What to expect?
That's really fast. Mine took about 30 days to notice the body growth and another week or two til release.
My temp was 70ish. I guess temp does play a role here.

Re: Baby Shrimp Question
My tank just had 1 month old baby shrimp. My understanding is that the hatched shrimp will detect water movement and when there's a threat it will bounce around. Thus most likely adult shrimp will not mistake them as food. but if there are dropped eggs, that's good food for them.

Very nice. I'm looking forward to the progress. I would not mind adding some legit plants to my opae ula tank.

Re: My Ecosphere Rescue Story
However, I wonder if shrimp will be susceptible to inbreeding(breeding with siblings) like us as humans. I wouldn't worry about about it. I have never observed adverse effects of inbreeding in these shrimp (or any other shrimp really) for over 1.5 decades. Ok, that's encouraging. Yet, I am s...
